The Ten Songs You Must Buy on iTunes or the WORLD WILL END!!! Page

1. Apologize- By OneRepublic
~Honestly, I had heard of OneRepublic, but never listened to any of their music before David
Archuleta performed "Apologize" with them on American Idol. This song is simply beautiful.
The vocals are spot-on, and the instruments give a fresh, new feel. Sweeping violins are what
really caught my piano ear, I guess you could say. Next comes soft percussion-- hand claps,
and a bit of castanets-- and then piano, which really drives the song. The lead singer's vocals
have a beautiful echo in the background, and are very soft, and quiet, like the song. There's a
little guitar later in the song, which adds a nice touch, but the violins really make the piece. I
guess you could say it is one of the few really pretty, melodic pop songs. Definitely one to buy.
2. Viva La Vida- By Coldplay
~This is the first time I've purchased anything by Coldplay. I first heard "Viva La Vida" on a
Target commercial, I believe. And the catchy line at the end of the chorus completely
convinced me to buy the song. Casually, the lead singer just drops the line "That was when I
ruled the world..." and you're left blinking, and hoping (for once) that the commercial will play
again. Violins and large church-like bells dominate the instrumentation, and lend an epic,
sweeping, and yet catchy and somehow modern feel to the song. Quite new and refreshing.
3. Her Morning Elegance- By Oren Lavie
~I first discovered Oren Lavie on the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian soundtrack, with
another amazing track called "A Dance 'Round the Memory Tree." Honestly, at first I thought it
sounded rather weird and creepy, but it grew on me the more I listened to it. "Her Morning
Elegance" I believe was used on a Chevy commercial, so it might be familiar. Lavie's vocals
are soft, a bit rough sounding, deep but so soothing. Backed by a strangely 'cool' sounding
combination of very soft percussion, bells and a bit of violin... All I can say is that you really
need to buy this song. It's beautiful.
4. This is Home- By Switchfoot
~This song was featured in the Prince Caspian soundtrack. You can view the music video on
our YouTube page, here. It starts out with a light piano melody, and really, you can't beat lead
singer, Jon Foreman's voice. (And by the way, if I've talked your ear off about the story I'm
co-writing, he looks just like the jester in the story, except... the jester isn't as happy. Anyway,
moving on...). This song also has light bells, and violins (seeing a trend here?). It's also got a
sing-along quality, and it WILL get stuck in your head, of course, in this case that's a good
thing. And, to top it all off, it brings back nice memories of the "Narnia" movie.
5. Comatose- By Skillet
~Wow! I first heard "Comatose" on the XM "The Torch" radio station. I dropped everything I
was doing just to listen. No wonder they won the Dove award for "best rock song of the year."
"Comatose, I'll never wake up without an overdose of you..." Says the pre-chorus. John
Cooper's vocals are amazing, as always, as are his wife Corey's. Together they create an
edgy, but beautifully, melodic rock song, that you can totally rock out to, and yet still sing
along, while avoiding a screaming free for all. There's some amazing violins, a constant piano,
and, of course, electric guitar delivered throughout the entire song. And the lyrics are
beautiful. Definitely a song to purchase.
6. Canto Della Terra- By Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli
~In all honesty, I've never been much of a fan of Andrea Bocelli, however this song is the
exception. I bought "Canto Della Terra" on a whim, simply because it was the most popular
song from Sarah Brightman's new album "Symphony." When I finally got to actually *listening*
to the song, I was pretty amazed. It's got a strange pop-ness about it, that really appeals to
me, but still has AMAZING vocals, on both Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman's parts, as well
as beautiful percussion and background vocals. Very pretty.

7. ANYTHING BY DAVID COOK!
~Okay, well, so it's not exactly a
review, but honestly, you need
to go ahead and purchase David
Cook's first single "The Time of
my Life."Grant you, I haven’t
purchased it yet, but… well, I did
buy “Dream Big” which was one
of his American Idol
performances. Totally though, if
you haven’t bought something
by this amazing musician, you
need to… NOW!
8. The Call- By Regina Spektor
~At the end of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, you hear this song played while erm…
Susan and Caspian kiss (why’d they have to do that? WHY?!). Anyway, I loved the song, and
learned it on the guitar. It’s very simple, and sounds happy if you haven’t seen the movie (if you
have, it sounds a bit melancholy, if I do say so myself). Regina’s vocals are very pretty and clear,
and the music compliments her very nicely. I’d buy it, if you haven’t already, as well as the ENTIRE
Narnia soundtrack.
9. Clouds- By After Edmund
~Alright, this has got to be one of the best up-and-coming Christian rock bands. They’ve got it all—
killer vocals, mad lyrics, superb instrumentation—and, perhaps the most important thing: a “new”
sound. This song is not only catchy, but has a slightly unexpected melody that switches from major
to minor tonality very quickly. You keep thinking the song is going to get ‘happier’ and then it
plunges into this dark, brooding, minor key, ‘sad’ sounding chorus. Anyway, my sister and I both
love this song, and I know you will too.
10. Time on Your Side- By Emily Jane White
~Thank goodness for iTunes free downloads—otherwise I would never have found this amazing
folk singer, Emily Jane White. This song is extremely simple—just a guitar, from what I can hear—
and compliments Miss White’s voice perfectly. Her voice is layered, and a bit low, and even a tad
sand-papery, which I love. I don’t think it’s free on iTunes anymore, but it’s worth 99cents!
